Hermanus Tour

Hermanus Tour

On a lovely clear warm Cape Town sunny morning my guests and I set out on an amazing scenic drive along the coastal route to Hermanus via Sir Lowry’s Pass which offers breath-taking views of Gordons Bay, the Strand and Somerset West. Stopped to take photos, and then continued along Clarence Drive, regarded as the most scenic drive in the world. Stopped at various look out points to take photos.

On arrival at Hermanus, we enjoyed a leisurely walk along the seafront cliff paths to view the mountains, ocean, rock pools and the Fynbos (Flora and Fauna). It was a pure pleasure being on the cliff tops and all the way alongside the sea there are benches all along the way for resting. The cliffs are a perfect vantage point to spot the whales in season.

Then we headed to Grotto Beach one of Hermanus most popular attraction for a well-deserved rest and refreshments at Dutchies in shaded comfy seats on the beach.

Wouldn’t be a visit to Hermanus without going to the country market to experience the various stalls, the vibe is amazing with live music the whole atmosphere put a smile on everyone’s face. I personally enjoyed to see a wonderful mix of locals, weekenders as well as the tourists. (There is also a ride for young children on a moped train and a small playground.

Lunch was at Rossi’s a family Italian restaurant, we enjoyed the lively friendly atmosphere, the excellent food and wine, especially the pizzas.

After lunch on our way back we took a drive up Rotary Way to the top of the Kleirivierberge which overlooks the ocean, and see hang gliders launch out with stunning views of Hermanus. (Photographic Paradise).

On our way back we did a final stop at the Benguela Cove Estate for wine tasting and cheese. On arrival our eyes were upon the endless view of the Estate nestled between hills on the banks of the Botrivier Lagoon. The setting is beautiful with amazing views and very relaxing.

We were sad to leave Hermanus as it has so much to offer, with mountains, rivers, lagoons, beautiful beaches and friendly people.
